Quick and Easy Chord Concepts is a series of fast and fun chord lessons for aspiring guitarists to start strumming simple chords with not-so-simple names. Check out this video lesson and diagrams…
Red indicates the roots and while blue indicates the scale tones. If you’re not familiar with these terms; relax, you don’t need to understand them in order to play these chords.
Notice that the 6th and 5th strings are not played at all. You’ll only need to focus on strumming the top 3 or 4 strings. Next, take a look at each diagram and you’ll see that the only difference is the first string.
In the first diagram, the G chord is played by placing your 2nd finger on the 1st string, 3rd fret. Next, the Gmaj7 is played by placing your 1st finger on the 1st string, 2nd fret. In the third diagram, the G6 chord is played by simply strumming the 1st through 4th strings open—by far, the easiest chord you’ll ever play. And finally, the Gadd9 is played by placing your 4th finger on the 1st string, 5th fret.

In the next lesson, we’ll use these chords with a backing track.
