Attracting Visitors

If you’re looking to really make your content at Intellectual Musician as lucrative as possible there are a few extremely quick and simple things you can do.

Grassroots:

By far the simplest form of advertising yourself is just to tell everyone you know about what it is you’re doing.

  • Send a mass email
  • Make a facebook or myspace flier
  • Put the website address on your business card
  • Write something at the bottom of your grandma’s birthday card :)

But while all of these things are very effective there are also less annoying ways of accomplishing the same thing.

  • Create an email signature with a link to http://intellectualmusician.com
  • If you’re a member of a musical community or forum (ibreathemusic.com, harmony-central.com, guitar.com, etc…) create a signature advertising the website.

Signature Example

And while something as simple as a signature may seem insignificant, the average signature on a popular forum generates 15-25 unique visitors a day from people who really want to learn about music.

Digg it!

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will see an icon of a tiny man with a shovel. This icon is a link to digg.com one of the net’s most popular social bookmarking sites.

  • Go to Digg.com and create an account for yourself
  • Click on a digg icon at the bottom of a post to digg it
    • If a post has already been dug then you’re done!
    • If a post has not been dug, then copy the title and opening sentence into the digg page to submit the post to digg

An article submitted to digg puts you in front of a much larger audience, and is well worth the 25 seconds it takes to submit, or single mouse click it takes to dig, so it is highly recommended! Also, be a team player, and digg other author’s posts as well, and hopefully they’ll return the favor.

-Also note that there are MANY other social bookmarking sites out there you can feel free to submit to, and doing so will only increase your page traffic.

Spread the love.

Intellectual Musician is a blog… technically. And being such this qualifies us to participate in the very unique and friendly international blogging community. You’ll find that most bloggers are all about being friendly and helping each other any way they can, and it would be in your best interest to be as active a part of this community as possible.

How do you do this? -Linking & Commenting.

Links are the currency of the internet. You give a little link love, and you’ll get a little link love. So look around for some blogs that write about some of the same things you’re writing about, then if appropriate, reference them in one of your articles.

“blah blah blah does a great job of explaining this blah blah blah in his blog blah-blah.com”

Then after you’ve made reference the next step is to let that blog know you’ve done so. It’s not mandatory, but it will automatically put a link back to your reference in the comments section of the receiving blog. This process is called creating a trackback or pingback.

So I’ll do my part right now by giving a trackback to a wonderful blog that has written in great detail about exactly how to create a trackback. PLEASE read this and take advantage of it!

Like an article someone wrote but don’t want to reference it directly? That’s OK, because most all blogs have some sort of comments section where you can leave a comment about someone’s blog entry with a hyper link back to your site or page.

Hopefully these tips will get you thinking about some different ways of taking an active part to make Intellectual Musician great, and thereby improving your online presence and earning potential.
